Just wondering, pb. Have you done anything with the Crew Experience level in the mis.files yet?

No, I have not. It's easy enough (sort-of) with "Find and Replace" in just about any decent TEXT editor.
[RndGroup 1.RndUnit 1] Class=JPFish01 Type=104 Origin=Japan Side=0 CargoExt=-1 CargoInt=0 CfgDate=19400101 No=1 Escort=false SpawnProbability=100 CrewRating=1
you "Search" on the "CrewRating=?" part, and "Replace" with a different value in "CrewRating=?". The "question mark" is just a place holder, like a wild card, and stands for any character at that position. Thus, it'd find "CrewRating=0", "CrewRating=1", etc. In the example from the 41a_Jap_CoastalTraffic.mis file above, all the Coastal boats are set to 1. That is for Novice, with 0 (zero) for Poor, 2 for Competent, 3 for Veteran and 4 for Elite. The game "counts" like a computer and starts at 0.
The problem with blanket "Search and Replace" like that is that ALL the crews are the same. It'd be nice to mix them up a bit within the same groups. It'd also be nice to do something based on the Group Type, like whether Task Force, Troop Transport, FastMerchant, etc. and the class of ship, so that some of the DD would be Elite, some Veteran, some Competent, etc. and have it vary from the beginning of the war towards the end, so that if in 1942 you saw the little GunBoat in the little out-of-the-way harbor that you took a rest in last time, and they shared a sake bomb or two with you (l'chaim!), this time they'll wanna share a TNT bomb or two (dozen) with you, from 300 feet away (you die, you dirty dog you!)...

If I parse the mis files? I could probably create a script to do some thing like this. By parseing the mis files I create structures that we can use to write the script. So it would look at the date and depending on what you select in a pop up box it could do a random replace or a targeted replace. 010 is an on the fly C programming type thing. Guess what program I used to extract the very 1st 3D models from SH5 GR2 files? And guess what program I used to do this in SH5. SH5 Open Bunker

This is just my opinion but I would rather see the CrewExperience level at 1. We have the AI plugins for those who want the TMO experience. Of course it is a hysterical fact that as WW II progressed the Japanese ASW did get better. I suppose we could go to a Crew Experience of 2 some time late in '43.

I was in the waiting room earlier today at a doctor's office, and had my tablet, using their free Wi-Fi and looking at some of the WWII "history" sites. It would be really nice to be "accurate" with the crew experience, based upon time frame and location, but I definitely don't want to get into the RSRDC mind-set of a place for everything, everything in its place. I like the idea though of variable crew experience based a bit upon location and time frame, along with being able to choose the AI level against you. But what I also want, is your own AI crew level to be as dependable as it was for the USN. I don't think 4 to 6 guys on the bridge of a sub would so consistently miss airplanes being so close as to almost killing your boat almost every time you go out.
As an example: The run-in I had the day before with a battle group's scout planes was not very pleasant, and the aviators are just a little too "skilled" also -AND- to top it off, I have another nearly blind crew... "Aircraft spotted, Sir." "BOOOM!!!" "We're under attack Sir!" No kidding... Lost the aft torpedo room, deck gun & AA gun, periscope and something else... All this in spite of increasing speed, zagging & crash diving, else it would have been in the conn again... So I kind of want to look at the fly boys also. CapnScurvy did warn us that they were "killer". But really, my crew should have seen them much sooner.
Anyway, maybe we do like you say as the "base", and then offer three sets of AI settings 1. Sensor 2. IJN crews 3. USN submarine crews... ??
