I've been looking into combining some of the TMO files with the FotRS files, and have gotten the 41a and 42a _Jap_SubHunters.MIS files to work, after "converting" the TMO calls for specific ships into reasonable FotRS calls. There are a LOT of little SubHunters, and GunBoats, in addition to about 3 classes of destroyers called for in the TMO layer. I'll dig into the 010 Editor closer for using the Results panel to further help in my efficiency in this regard, which will help get the other years up and going. I've got 41a basically finished, but I'm going through again to double-check. I want to get it to where cdrsubron7 and I are both doing some, but we have to have a "set" ship list to work with, prior to converting many more of the "definitioins" for the groups. We also have to decide which RGG to convert to regular [units] with "Loop" set for continuous. I can see Jeff really getting into the specific battles' mission files, and having as many historic ships in them as possible...
Digging this close into the Campaign makes me appreciate more the effort some of these guys did to make what they did. However, that said... There is a lot of crap in a lot of the mods. Almost like someone was in a hurry, and left things undone. There are MIS files that are not called for in the Campaign.cfg file. I think the devs themselves were in a similar situation, and it rears its head in the runaway spawns. Has anyone ever figured out if it's the Random Generated Groups (RGG) that do it, or the Time Compression not functioning as intended, especially when coming out of higher levels of TC? I found an old old post in the SubSim archive, linked to in the Ubi archive, and they were talking about how they never saw the phenomenon until v1.5 came out. ?? Any truth to that. I could have sworn when I got it I was using v1.4 with TMO 1.7, and when I complained about it, (Ubi site?? SubSim?? Some other??), I was told "you should have upgraded to v1.5 years ago, and put on TMO2.1 or whatever"... But TMO 2.5 doesn't have anywhere near as many RGG as does FotRS...
I guess I'm more complaining here than anything, about what I've encountered, and the "rules" of the Mission Editor that basically hog-ties you to a given mod, down to the very version you're using sometimes even... If I'm in FotRS Ultimate v.25beta, I can't expect a mission for v.2beta to even open. TMO2.5 missions put the spazz on the ME. I have to use Task Manager to close it, and then go into a text editor and convert the ships, or go into the TMO folder, run the ME, and look at what is in the mis file... Which reminds me, I wanna get Jeff set-up to convert his Tambor198 TMO Single Missions...
