I've been finding that one of the the MOST difficult things with any sort of modding in this game is the total lack of consistency in naming things. I'm trying to troubleshoot like three things, and what I'm finding is extremely confusing, all because of the "Names" nomenclature (or rather, lack thereof). This is across folder and file names, as well as "calls" to the same in the game's MIS files. As an example, there is a "Kingfisher" airplane that I've been looking into, since CapnScurvy couldn't get the Allies' float planes to function properly, so I've been comparing it to the Japanese Pete and German AR 196. I'll not get into those names, just the Kingfisher...
So why are there all these references to the same thing? ALBS_OS-2U versus LBS_OS-2U and ALBS_OS-2U versus US OS OS2u-3?? I'm guessing the "A" stands for "Air" (as in "Data / Air" folder)?? "L" for "Long-range" - maybe?? "B" for "carries Bombs" - maybe?? "S" for "Scout"?? Also, where did these planes come from? They aren't in "Stock", so are they an import from SHIII, or some other game? Is that the issue? Do the "imports" not have proper weapons or operational nodes? I have no idea how to check that kind of stuff... The Pete and the AR196 are both from "Stock" v1.5...
Now, BIG question, especially for CapnScurvy.... : Is the "UnitType=302", which is for a "Dive Bomber" correct for these guys? Both of the Axis planes are 302 also, and seem to work all too "efficiently"...
Does any of this make a difference in the functionality of the float planes that fly off the Allied ships? I don't know. What I do know, is it's very tough to keep the matter square in my head...
perty kuhl, ain't they?
The German plane has been around since 1938, the Japanese plane is a low-mileage used vehicle, and the GB and US planes are showroom new...
- There are two Kingfisher folders in the Data / Air folder: "ALBS_OS-2U" and "ALBS_OS-2U2".
- Those have files with "ALBS_OS-2U" and "ALBS_OS-2U2" in their names.
- The config file for the "plain" (US) ALBS_OS-2U there refers to "ClassName=LBS_OS-2U" and "3DModelFileName=data/Air/ALBS_OS-2U/ALBS_OS-2U". The British plane is similar. So the "ALBS" is in some, "LBS" in others... Otherwise, it's just "BS"... bad pun, I know...
- If I look for the planes in the Roster / x / Air folder, I find a "LBSOS-2U.cfg" (American), and "LBSOS-2U2" (the British version).
- In those same files, there's a "DisplayName=US OS OS2U-3" and "Name=GB OS2U-3 Kingfisher Scout Plane" respectively (say whuh??)...
- In the Names.cfg we have "LBS_OS-2U=Kingfisher Scout Plane" and "LBS_OS-2U2=British Scout Plane" respectively
- If I look in the BB, CA and CL US folders at the CFG files, the US vessels "ask" for "Squadron1Class=LBS_OS-2U" and the British vessels "ask" for the "Squadron1Class=LBS_OS-2U2"... ?? -Issue versus the Rosters DisplayName= and Names.cfg- ?? - Or does it matter??
